Creative and collaborative workplace for a global advertising agency.
Following the widely-acclaimed fitout of global advertising agency R/GA’s New York office by architects Foster + Partners, Sheldon was appointed by R/GA to bring their world’s most connected office concept to Sydney. R/GA are responsible for transforming brands like Nike and Samsung into household names, with founder Bob Greenberg recently inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame. R/GA sought to create a new office that would play a part in helping to recruit and retain the best talent by offering the “most creative, collaborative & innovative workspace”.
Sheldon delivered the state-of-the art space under a design and construct engagement. The office was to feature the best in technology and design, with every element carefully selected to inspire the team and enable them to do the best work of their careers. Paying attention to R/GA’s New York office fitout, particular heed was to be given to their Design Kit of Parts in which every item had been carefully selected by the R/GA team for specific reasons. Featuring a multiple use training room, four conference rooms and four huddle rooms, along with a sit-to-stand workstation for every employee, every element in the office, from the ergonomics, acoustical treatments and flooring to the furniture, lighting and specific Audio Visual facilities were all to support employee health and wellness.
Designing around the central atrium
The atrium that runs up the centre of 9 Castlereagh Street, a building designed by the renowned architect Harry Seidler, would prove to be most challenging aspect in creating a physically connected office. To maximise the shape and natural light provided through the atrium, the Sheldon design team cleverly incorporated the atrium into the designs various workpoints to enable a natural visual connection. The result is a space that can attribute several different workspaces whilst being connected through the central Atrium.
High End Audio-Visual Integration
The Audio-Visual facilities were crucial to the functionality of the space, and their seamless integration into the office gives R/GA’s workplace a unique edge. Feature uplighting highlights the exposed ceiling while providing a similar look and feel to the circadian lighting system in R/GA’s New York office. With R/GA’s objective to create the “Worlds Most Connected Office” it was paramount that the Sydney headquarters accommodated for a variety of international collaboration.
Result
The new Sydney HQ demonstrates the full capabilities of the R/GA team while fostering employee engagement, efficiency, creativity, and development. The new workspace is R/GA’s credential, which will ensure they continue to recruit and retain the best talent.
This project, in particular designing around a central atrium, showcases Sheldon’s value engineering and design adaptability through internal design, construction, electrical, and manufacturing divisions. Together, Sheldon’s divisions were able to create a space that is complemented by the central atrium, and is designed to capitalise on its features.
