Sheldon x Investa NAIDOC Week 2023 Cultural Experience

To pay our respects to Elders and pay homage to those continuing to champion change during this year’s NAIDOC week, Sheldon hosted a cultural experience alongside Investa, inviting members of the community to participate in a number of immersive activities. Alongside a smoking ceremony and dance performance, attendees heard speeches from elders and participated in a native weaving workshop and native bread tasting.

Special thank you to elder Richard Swain for his speech on regenerating Country, Neil Evers for his Welcome to Country, Two Sisters Gamilaroi and Wailwan Dancers for their performance, Yambulla and Black Duck Foods Ltd for their native bread tasting, Peta Joy Williams for their weaving workshop, as well as Amy Wild and the team at Investa for partnering with us for this event

The theme “For Our Elders” reminds us to honour and respect the fundamental role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders play in our society and to celebrate their intrinsic connection to Country. They are the holders of cultural knowledge, the trailblazers advocating for change and the source of comfort and voice of reason in everyday life for their families and communities.
