Sustainable Downsizing

Following a successful track record of delivering high-quality speculative suites and building upgrades for Dexus at Australia Square, Sheldon was approached by this client seeking an office upgrade. Civeo, looking to downsize and elevate their specifications from another location, aimed to refurbish this smaller office space in alignment with their sustainability goals.

The brief primarily focused on enhancing the floor’s functionality and aesthetics, while retaining the preexisting office layout and furniture. These works also included increasing the storage space and adding private offices.

Adaptive Reuse

Sheldon’s commitment to sustainable design and circular economy principles was central to the success of the Civeo project. Adaptive reuse, which plays a crucial role in reducing material waste with innovative product design, optimal waste management strategies, and resource adaptability, remains a core focus across many Sheldon projects.

Rather than relying heavily on new raw materials, Sheldon focused on repurposing the office's existing elements, including the furniture and some joinery materials. By integrating these reused features into the office fitout, Sheldon was able to maximise resource efficiency while still ensuring the final design met Civeo’s modern functionality and aesthetic requirements.

Sustainable Manufacturing

Despite many components of the office already being in place, Sheldon Manufacturing played a key role in delivering this environmentally conscious fitout. Any additional joinery and furniture required were crafted using sustainable materials in Sheldon’s manufacturing facility, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Practices such as material recycling, supplier take-back schemes, and packaging recovery helped Sheldon achieve a waste recovery rate of up to 85% in its operations. Sheldon’s experience in sustainable practices provided a thoughtful solution for Civeo, supporting a more eco-friendly office environment.

The project, which incorporated sustainable elements like the reuse of materials and furniture, as well as the use of sustainable products in joinery, was delivered one week ahead of schedule, thanks to effective communication and collaboration across all teams involved.
