Adaptive reuse reduced carbon emissions by 48%.
Sheldon maximised creative reuse to transform a dated speculative suite for commercial developers Peakstone in the heart of Sydney, benefiting tenants and the environment. The conventional approach would have been to start from scratch, however Sheldon realised there was an opportunity to reuse some of the existing elements. Through considered design planning we were able to transform the space into a stunning new office, whilst keeping costs and waste as low as possible.
Solution
Together with the team at Peakstone, Sheldon put into practice the idea of circular fitout at 55 Clarence St, an 861sqm speculative fitout. Through a material retention approach, Sheldon completely transformed the space into a modern and flexible office, without contributing much waste to landfill.
We reused 13% of built form plasterboard partitions from the previous fitout, as well as much of the carpeting, tables, chairs and storage units. Custom-made Sheldon joinery was used to elevate the space into a desirable suite with a warm, inviting and residential look and feel.
A particular standout is the timber battening archway at the entry to the suite, providing a striking focal point. A generous boardroom, open plan work areas and kitchen break out areas ensure that the space is flexible and will suit the needs of a range of tenants well into the future.
Result
This project was a success in demonstrating Sheldon's ability to reinvigorate older spaces, by using existing components during a complete transformation that elevates spaces aesthetically and functionally. From flooring to services, and partitions to furniture, much was kept and re-used from the floor’s previous fitout, whilst transforming the suite into a modern, multi-functional office.
