Creating a Home for a Newly Merged Workforce
The acquisition of cloud-solutions provider Rhipe by technology architects Crayon in 2021 created a pivotal moment for the combined organisation. With two distinct employee groups now operating under one brand, the leadership team saw an opportunity to consolidate both teams into a single workplace that would support collaboration, reinforce culture, and encourage post-pandemic attendance.
To ensure that both sides of the business were represented in the design, Sheldon undertook a structured workplace assessment involving key stakeholders from each team. This process helped define operational expectations, cultural priorities, and preferred ways of working.
Solution
Having partnered with Crayon previously, Sheldon approached the new project with a deep understanding of the organisation’s culture, priorities, and operational rhythm. The design direction emphasisied a contemporary, light-filled environment that balanced visual appeal with long-term practicality. Earthy tones, organic textures, and sleek timber furniture, produced through Sheldon’s in-house joinery division grounded the space in warmth and authenticity. The palette was intentionally timeless, ensuring the workplace would remain relevant well into the future.
Natural light and the sweeping harbour outlook also shaped much of the planning approach, with work zones positioned to access views and circulation paths kept open to retain brightness throughout the floor. Materials were selected for durability and visual warmth, ensuring the space remains functional and welcoming as Crayon continues to grow.
Throughout delivery, Sheldon’s project management, design, manufacturing, electrical, and construction teams worked in lockstep, ensuring continuity between design intent and execution.
Result
Despite client side delays early in design development, Sheldon completed the 1,370 sqm fitout within the scheduled 11 weeks. During this period the project team remained patient, communicative, and closely aligned with Crayon’s leadership, which helped maintain confidence and momentum throughout design development and into construction.
The finished space has been extremely well received, with Crayon noting the visual impact of the arrival experience and the way harbour views have been captured throughout the floor. The office has a clear wow factor and has quickly become a workplace both legacy Rhipe and Crayon teams are proud to occupy.
