Modernising the workplace of one of Australia’s oldest not-for-profit organisations.

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS), was founded in 1822, and has since become one of Australia’s most prominent not-for-profits that supports rural agricultural communities and develops the sustainability of agricultural businesses for generations to come. Home to the historic Sydney Royal Easter Show at the Sydney Showground, the RAS is responsible for ensuring the success of this annual event.

Carrying out a refurbishment of the reception and workspaces for this historic not-for-profit was a fascinating task for our teams. Alongside the first upgrade of their reception space in over 20 years, Sheldon’s Electrical division undertook a large AV project in collaboration with LectraTech and Smartsign.

Solution

Reception and office fitout

Our team designed a new reception area that acts as an entry point for visitors and staff at RAS. The corrugated iron reception desk is a nod to their agricultural history, while a history wall of images and interactive map of Sydney Showground enhances the visitor experience.

We also refurbished RAS’ meeting rooms and open plan workpoints on the first floor of the same building, providing staff with a refreshed workspace with greater connectivity.

This project also involved the large-scale supply and installation of a new media screen system throughout Sydney Showground, ahead of the Sydney Royal Easter Show 2024 and other major events that take place in the precinct. Sheldon’s Electrical Division was selected as a finalist in the 2024 NECA Awards for this project!

The scope of this project extended across the entire Showground. It included the main office and reception space of RAS, where 3D interactive maps were installed. Further screens were installed across the foyer to The Dome (the largest structure of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere), within the Exhibition Halls, as well as meeting rooms and briefing rooms that are used by staff during major events.

The installation of this system will transform the way digital content is displayed at Sydney Showground, whether during events for promotion, wayfinding, signage, video content or during down times for logos and upcoming event information.

Result

This project was a resounding success and a successful collaboration between many stakeholders. The new workspace and AV system will deliver transformative results for RAS staff and Sydney Showground events and promotions.
