Sheldon Interiors Launches Mechanical Division
For over 35 years, Sheldon Interiors has been a champion of turn-key office fitout solutions, backed by the expertise of in-house teams which includes manufacturing, partitioning, construction, electrical, design, and strategy operations. In 2025, we're excited to elevate our offering even further with the launch of our new Mechanical Division.
Like all the divisions at Sheldon, bringing mechanical service management in-house enables our clients to enjoy peace of mind during the fitout process, ensuring exceptional quality, program assurance, and value efficiency across all phases of design and construction.
Integrated Teams for Optimal Performance
Under the leadership of Matt Hol, Sheldon's new Mechanical Divisional Manager, the team is already handling live projects, bringing expertise in HVAC systems and other essential mechanical services while working alongside the partitioning and manufacturing teams to create corporate fitouts within budget and in a rapid timeframe. As Matt notes, "It’s hard to believe how quickly this division has taken off. We initially expected a slow rollout, but demand has already exceeded our expectations."
Dan Moroney, the Head of Electrical and Mechanical, emphasises the importance of having our divisions work in unison. "Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing are key components of an office refurbishment," he explains. "By aligning these trades and ensuring they interface smoothly with our other internal divisions, we can maintain very high-quality standards that ultimately benefit the clients". This continuous collaboration among internal design and construction teams creates a unique workflow, setting Sheldon apart in an industry where many firms rely on external resources and subcontractors.
Building Trust Through Transparency
Beyond streamlining internal processes, the establishment of Sheldon's Mechanical Division reinforces our commitment to client confidence and transparency. Having an in-house mechanical team allows clients to connect directly with the professionals designing and executing their projects, ensuring their vision is realised on time and with precision.
One challenge mechanical teams face in fitout projects is installing services in exposed ceilings, where achieving the right balance between functionality and aesthetic intent requires careful attention to detail. "While it may be more cost-effective and visually appealing to forgo ceiling tiles altogether, exposed ductwork demands meticulous planning and execution, which can increase both workload and expenses for the client from a mechanical perspective," says Matt. "However, when done properly, it can really enhance the atmosphere and style of the interior." By embracing challenges like these, our teams are continually discovering innovative ways to elevate both design and mechanical systems, pushing the boundaries of industry standards.
Eco-Conscious Strategies for a Future-Ready Division
This commitment to innovation goes beyond design challenges, extending into our circular economy approach to corporate fitouts. In a competitive market where many firms rely on subcontracting, our ability to manage the installation of services in house ensures that our longstanding commitment to sustainable practices is overseen, implemented, and reported effectively. The new Mechanical Division is now an important part of this approach, focusing on assessing whether components from previous installations—such as water-cooling units and ductwork—can be repurposed whenever possible.
With a strong emphasis on WELLS ratings and our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments, we understand the importance of considering reuse of existing mechanical and electrical components to enhance the sustainability of a project. "In many cases, flexible ductwork that is 20 years old can be superior to what is currently available on the market," explains Matt. By incorporating a sustainable approach during the design phase, the Mechanical Division not only contributes to the energy efficiency of a fitout, but also its carbon efficiency. This commitment to sustainability is central across all our operations, with our internal design, construction, manufacturing, services, and partitioning divisions providing an opportunity to optimise project sustainability.
Looking Ahead
As Sheldon continues to integrate the Mechanical Division across our project sites now and into the future, our capacity to support end-to-end construction through trade services will remain a critical factor in delivering premium, beautiful fitouts that blend our clients' vision for their future workplace with service systems that contribute to a wellbeing-focused environment.
